Going Tuscan Blog

As a photographer and travel journalist, I spend a great deal of my time in Tuscany discovering new sites, sounds and tastes. Every month, in Going Tuscan Blog, I try to bring you a bit of Tuscany: it's culture, lifestyle, history, tastes, smells, sounds. . . the five senses and so much more.

People visit Tuscany all year long. In fact, Florence continues to be the number 1 tourist destination in the world after 300 years. But visiting Tuscany and living in Tuscany are two very different worlds, at times at odds with each other.

Going Tuscan Blog will introduce you to a world where food, aesthetic beauty and community values still rank high as priorities; a place where coffee is drunk in a bar, lunch is served on more than one plate and where the day's schedule is dictated by the noonday sun and evening cool.

Restaurant – Da Roberto

This restaurant is located at the end of Montisi. This is looking to offer above average Italian food. Varies with the chef (if you go please tell me how you found it)

Restaurant – Il Rondo

A wine bar that has its own courtyard along the town road.  Lovely place to meet for drinks and watch the town pass by.  Roberto and Katia make some daily pasta and sliced meat dishes.  Ask what they suggest.

Restaurant – La Romita

Half-way up the village.  Can be pricy. Closed on Wednesdays.
Tel: 0577 845159

Restaurant – Il Conte Matto

Located in the centre of Trequanda this is a typical above-average tuscan restaurant. If you like steak then this is a must. If you want something delicious and unique, ask for the lamb chops wrapped in “lardo colonato”! I think it is closed either Monday or Tuesday, but please check.

Restaurant – La Moscadella

Located on the left on the way into Castelmuzio, La Moscadella was recently refurbished and now offers accommodation plus restaurant. The food is very good.  In summer dining is only outside.

Restaurant – Il Casal Mustia

This hotel and restaurant is located in the centre of Castelmuzio. Il Casal Mustia is rustic and offers accommodation plus a restaurant and bar. The restaurant offers good basic tuscan food. It is located on the second floor, but do ask, if the evening is good, to sit outside in the courtyard. Lately, they have [...]

Mosquitos & Bugs

Under normal conditions, Castelmuzio’s altitude and dryness ensure that we seldom have problems with mosquitos. For that reason we do not bother with screens on the windows. However, to ensure your comfort, we have plugs in the outlets that release the odor of Citronella, known to ward off Mosquitos. These are not [...]

Photo Inclusion – Schmap Florence Guide

Mark Abouzeid’s photo of the Ponte Vecchio at sunset has been included in the most recent Schmap Florence Guide.

Pitti Uomo – Special Edition

This year’s highlights include the return of Laura Biagiotti to Pitti, a highly exclusive launch of Thom Browne’s latest collection and, what may turn out to the most exciting event, ParCrust…a runway show with the Paris team of freestyle runners direct from the set of Luc Bresson’s latest film.
